Day 2-Puerto Rico-Snorkeling on the Erin Go Braugh
Today is our first snorkeling adventure. We are heading out with another family on the Erin Go Braugh sailboat. I've learned that it is important to apply sunscreen liberally... that means thick! we are a bit sunburned just from yesterday! the boat is beautiful and before long I've secured the role of "first mate" and can steer the boat as well as shut down the motors. Pretty cool but I don't think this is a paying type of job...
While heading out to our first island we saw a tortoise (they are nesting now) and we saw dolphins as well. There's a lot of life in that water!
These are pictures the crew sent us from previous trips...
This is what some of the coral looks like in the reefs here, Elkhorn coral, Stag horn and Brain Coral as well as the soft Fan like Corals...and where there is coral there is fish!
Blue Tang are pretty common and can get big!
Parrot fish are very pretty with big kissy lips!
Dad called this the "triangle fish" but it is really the Trunkfish
Mom saw a Puffer fish, they are cool and blow up like a balloon when threatened
Sargeant Majors were everywhere!
Starfish were seen many time as well

The second island we went to we could walk around in 5 minutes! there was great snorkeling there as well but we also
hunted for shells on the island and found a great piece of coral as well as some sea urchins!
The water was the most amazing color...

What a day!

We really enjoyed our time on the boat. We saw so many things and learned so much.

Like we learned to always wear our lifevests when snorkeling in the ocean! at the first island we got kind of carried away and headed to deeper and deeper water until we had to be rescued by Dan in the little Dingy! Glad he was there watching us!

After that we were more careful to watch the currents and water depths!

Tomorrow we are heading to the mountain instead of the Sea...this Island just has everything! Come along for Day 3!
