The Bay Area Renaissance Festival is only a few blocks from our hotel! Since it was almost downtown it was easy to get to but not as big as the one back home.

At the beginning of this festival the King and Queen come to the front gate of the marketplace because as they were travelling through the country their wheel broke. While the wheel was being repaired the village entertained the royalty.

It was the Irish weekend so there were dancers and bagpipers. The King defined a Gentleman as one "who knows how to play the bagpipes but chooses not to".

While we held the rope snug the juggler tried to do his act! we did it!
The gypsies are always fun! They danced with the snake, a sword, a veil and a cane. I love belly dancing! I think dad even liked their show! he was smiling...
At this festival Mother Nature does storytime.
Mom even got a face painting this time!
I told you she has purple hair!
I helped the fairy teach the baby dragon to behave.
He just hatched and had the worst manners!
We have a show like this back home too.
Jamison the Juggler is from back home but comes here for the winter! Who can blame him?
Back home we don't have human combat chess. It was so cool. People stood out on a "chess board" and the King
and Queen on each side told them where to move. If there was already someone from the other side in that spot
they fought it out. Most of the women called for proxies to fight for them...but not the pirate wench! She won too!!!
Before we left we made sure to give our regards to the Queen and extend an invitation for her to visit the shire of Shakopee next fall.

The faire had some of the same shows that they have back at home, some similar shows and some entirely new.

There was a joust and Tea with the Queen but there was no parade.

It was fun but I can't wait 5 months until we can go to our own Renaissance back home!

Tomorrow we will pack up at the hotel and head to the aquarium before heading to the airport.

But now I'm walking back to our hotel and hitting the pool and hot tub one last time!
